If you have an interest in Steve Jobs or Apple then this book is an amazing read as it gives a very intimate insight into his history and his life. Whilst it is a biography written by a third-party, what makes this one all the more special is that it was solicited by the subject. When Steve Jobs learnt that he was dying he contacted Isaccson to write a biography with authorized access to his family and colleagues. He wanted to preemptively have one written because he feared other authors writing a biography that was inaccurate and that did not portray him in a true sense.
From the first page this is a riveting read as we learn about the history of Steve Jobs’s adoptive parents that encouraged and inspired him and his sense of alienation that drove his desires to do succeed. Having seen clips of the slick CEO on stage it’s surprising to learn of his unorthodox schooling and his search to find himself with Buddhism. However Isaccson weaves a cunning but honest tale that demonstrates how each part of Jobs life had an impact on him and his business decisions at Apple.
This is a fantastic book that involves your interest from the start. On finishing I can’t help but feel it is a bitter-sweet read. It shows flawed individual who was a master of his field and changed the world. Jobs never got to read it but I’d like to believe he would have thought it a sincere and honest portrait.
